In March 2023, the music school organized an original and very fun musical performance contest on its Instagram page: the Secret Student Contest.
The principle was very simple: each student of the school could prepare a video of a piece or a song of their choice, and interpret it with their face masked, and disguised. Why ? Two reasons: costumes are fun and this way, everybody could participate without online privacy worry.
70 FHK Music students participated and 5 teachers formed a jury to grade and comment on all the performance videos: Teachers Domitille (piano, music theory), Hinson (Piano, flûte, saxo), Mikey (Guitar, singing), Nasthasia (Singing, piano) and Robyn (violin).
15 Trophies were distributed: #Bestperformance (the overall contest winner whose identity will be revealed in front of everybody on June 3rd Student recital, for which he earned free tickets for his whole family), #Best Piano 1st Year, #Best Piano 2nd Year, #Best Piano 3-4th year, #Best piano +5years, #Very Young performers (4-6 year old), #Best Singing, #Best pop song, #Best guitar, #Best violin, #Best Tempo, #Best Dynamics, #Best Musicality, #Best Costume, #Best John Williams’ piece, #Best Disney song.
For each trophy, the Jury members decided on a list of nominees and winner.
And this year Best Performance and Contest winner is….an amazing first year piano student who presented two remarkably executed pieces: one from Bach and one from Pachelbel!
As teachers, we were so proud of all our students who practiced so well before filming themselves and managed to excel. This was a fun and motivating contest for everyone and we will definitely launch another edition next year! #SecretStudentContest2024!
