Johann Sebastian Bach’s Two-Part Inventions (BWV 772–786) were composed as teaching pieces for his students. In the original preface, Bach explained that they were written to help developing keyboard players learn to play clearly in two voices, gain good ideas for composition, and develop a cantabile (singing) style of playing.

The 15 Inventions are arranged in ascending order by key, beginning with C major and progressing through related major and minor keys (using no more than four sharps or flats). Each piece focuses on clarity of voicing, balance between hands, and precise articulation.
